Local Hero Triumphs in Sapporo, Aims for Beijing Glory

Kobayashi Ryoyu, the Japanese ski jumping superstar, has captured the hearts of fans worldwide with his exceptional skills and undeniable charisma.

Born on November 8, 1996, Kobayashi has already etched his name among the greatest ski jumpers of all time. With a string of impressive victories, including a second overall World Cup title and a dominant performance at the recent Sapporo World Cup weekend, Kobayashi is poised to make history at the upcoming Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

Kobayashi's journey began in his hometown of Hachimantai, where he first took to the slopes at the tender age of four. Inspired by his older sister, Kokone, and brother, Junshiro, who are both accomplished ski jumpers, Kobayashi quickly developed a passion for the sport.

As a junior competitor, Kobayashi showcased his exceptional talent, winning numerous national titles and setting age-group records. His rise to prominence continued at the international level, with victories in the Junior World Championships and the FIS Continental Cup.

Kobayashi's breakthrough came during the 2018-2019 World Cup season, where he emerged as a dominant force. He won eight individual events and secured the overall title, becoming the youngest Japanese skier to achieve this feat.

With the Beijing Olympics on the horizon, Kobayashi is determined to make history. As the local hero, he will have the support of the entire nation behind him as he aims to become the first Japanese ski jumper to win Olympic gold since Kazuyoshi Funaki at Nagano 1998. Kobayashi's exceptional skills, unwavering determination, and infectious enthusiasm make him a favorite to reach the podium and inspire a new generation of ski jumpers.
