Host Nation Tops Medal Count with 27 Golds

Impressive Performance for Japanese Athletes

Host nation Japan had a stellar performance at the 2020 Summer Olympics, surpassing its previous gold medal tallies from the 1964 and 2004 Games. Japanese athletes won a total of 27 gold medals, along with 14 silver and 17 bronze, for a total of 58 medals overall. This places Japan second in the overall medal standings, behind the United States.
