2020-Base Explanation Released

The Government of Japan has released the 2020-Base Explanation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which measures changes in the prices paid by consumers for a basket of goods and services.

2023 CPI Summary

According to the data released on January 19, 2024, Japan's all-items index of consumer prices in 2023 stood at 105.6 (2020=100), marking a 3.2% increase compared to the previous year.

The index for all items excluding fresh food also increased by 2.5% from 2022 to 2023, reaching 102.3 (2020=100).

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications released Japan's composite consumer price index excluding fresh food for October 2022, which showed a 3.6% year-over-year increase.
